The 2028 deadline for EPC C for new private rented sector (PRS) tenancies has been abandoned by the Government following relentless campaigning from the industry.

Ministers also confirmed they will reduce the spending cap – the amount landlords will be expected to fork out for improvements  – from £15,000 to £10,000 per property and furthermore this will be reduced incrementally for homes valued under £100,000.

Today’s announcement confirms all landlords, whether signing new tenancy agreements or with sitting tenants, will now have until October 1st 2030 to bring their properties to an EPC rating of C or above to legally let them out.
